Carnegie Hall 2026
The New York City Bar Chorus made its second appearance at legendary Carnegie Hall on March 29, 2026, with a "solo set" within the concert "Sing/Play," presented by Distinguished Concerts International New York. Our program featured our trademark diverse repertoire, including "Over and Done" from Schmigadoon! (with composer Cinco Paul in the house to enjoy the Carnegie Hall debut of his music), Lauridsen’s “Sure on This Shining Night,” Sondheim’s ”Not While I'm Around" from Sweeney Todd, Billie Eilish’s Oscar-and-Grammy-winning “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie, classics from Bob Dylan, Brandi Carlile, Richard Smallwood, and more! If you missed this high-spirited performance, mark your calendar for Nov. 5 and 13, 2026, when we will next concertize at the NYC Bar after a spring community outreach circuit.

NYC Bar Chorus Makes Carnegie Hall Debut!
October 14, 2019
The New York City Bar Chorus made its Carnegie Hall debut on October 14, 2019, on the main stage of Carnegie Hall, as a featured chorus in Historic Programs’ 2019 National Fall Sing. This event commemorated and honored those who were and continue to be affected by the events of 9/11. In addition to the Chorus performing a set of its well-known repertoire, conducted by its Musical Director, Kathryn E. Schneider, the Carnegie Hall program featured an honor choir conducted by Greg Gilpin with high-school singers from several states and two guest speakers who are 9/11 survivors. We were honored to play an important role in this moving performance, which received front-page coverage from the New York Law Journal.

NYC Bar Chorus Makes Off-Broadway Debut
March 14 & 15, 2015
On March 14 and 15, 2015, the New York City Bar Chorus performed at the renowned New York Theatre Workshop, in David Greig’s acclaimed play “The Events,” which has been produced in Edinburgh (where it won a “Best of Fringe”award), London, New Haven and other venues. The play is based on the 2011 mass shooting in Norway and the playwright’s observation of Norwegians’ reaction to the tragedy, including their strong community choral tradition. The play imagines that the massacre occurred within a multicultural community choir and focuses on the fictitious choir director’s journey of grief and acceptance. At each performance, a different choir was featured, serving as both participants and “Greek chorus,”performing six songs scored by John Browne as well as one of its own signature songs. The City Bar Chorus provides compassion, comfort and acceptance to its diverse community outreach audiences and was thrilled to serve a similar role in this uniquely inventive and moving production.
